How a Snowboard is Made
A fascinating look at how snowboards are made. This video shows the Burton Snowboard manufacturing process.
Starting from what seems like quite a basic strip of wood, the snowboard craftsmen work through many stages to end up with the great designs and super-shiny finish that we all get to see in the finished products.
Video Length: 4 mins 30 seconds
As you’ll appreciate already, making a snowboard isn’t simply a matter of grabbing a strip of wood and designing some paintwork and applying some varnish to it. When newcomers to snowboarding see the prices of snowboards for the first time they are often shocked at how expensive they can be. They may even think that the industry is trying to con everyone into paying out a lot of money for a strip of wood with a fancy design painted on it.
All the above thoughts are completely false. There is an enormous amount of technology that goes in to the initial design of every snowboard and then there are many, many hours of skilled craftmanship that goes into producing the final product.
If you haven’t watched the video above yet then I recommend that you do. The video doesn’t even show the design stages that come before the manufacturing process so you can add many hours of design stages before we even get to this stage. Watch and appreciate the work that goes in to a snowboard.
